I used to be a chef, but now I sell fence for a living. Been known to carry a gun, but that's not my only bad habit. I cook competition BBQ. I vote for elephants, carry a compass and square and believe in open source. I like to travel to interesting places and I believe everything's better in a YJ.
Dogfish Head Festina Peche
Dogfish Head Festina PecheVery nice refreshing beer. Tart flavor on the aftertaste. I'd agree that it would be great with grilled white meat. Why compare beer with wine? It's not the same thing. I would drink this again, but only for a specific reason. Wouldn't be my regular choice.
From the brewer and ratebeer.com
A refreshing neo-Berliner Weisse fermented with peaches.
Food Pairing recommendations: Grilled chicken or fish, salad.
Glassware recommendation: Pint
Wine comparable: Pinot Grigio
Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA
Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPAVery nice beer, IMHO. Bright hops, crisp flavor. Lip smacker. I know that doesn't tell you much, but if you've had IPA's and you like them you'll definitely enjoy this one.
From the brewer:
Esquire Magazine calls our 90 Minute I.I.PA., "perhaps the best I.P.A. in America." An Imperial I.P.A. brewed to be savored from a snifter. A big beer with a great malt backbone that stands up to the extreme hopping rate. This beer is an excellent candidate for use with Randall The Enamel Animal! 90 ibu
Tasting Notes: Brandied fruitcake, raisiney, citrusy.
Food Pairing recommendations: Pork chops, beef, grilled fish, frites, focaccia, split pea soup, Stilton cheese & escargot.
Bells Winter White
Bells Winter WhiteOk, so my review. Nutmeg, Allspice....mix beer with the classic flavors of the holidays and this is what you get. Nice drinking beer, and I'd certainly buy it again, but only during the holidays. It lacked depth of flavor, and taste a little like wheat beer with spice added to it. Couldn't I do that myself? I guess I'm looking for something more interesting than that. Wifey liked it......hmm.
From the brewer:
A Wheat Ale brewed with American Wheat and a proprietary blend of Hefe and classic Belgian-style yeasts. A refreshing winter alternative created from the subtle fusion of two classic flavors.
Dogfish Head Pale India Ale
Dogfish Head - India Pale AleOk, I read all the mumbo-jumbo BS from ratebeer.com, and I've even included it below for your review. But I can tell you, that last thing I thought of when I tasted this beer was...hmm, that is surely the taste of an imported seed of an Indian onion. F&ck that. I started this beer drinking journey to find a brewery I could connect with. Maybe someone thinking the same way I think. Putting fenugreek in your beer because you read about the seed in the latest edition of Bon Apetit, is complete baloney!
Dogfish Head - Palo Santo Marron
Dogfish Head Palo Santo MarronImagine that you opened the door of my Fast Eddy Barbeque and stuck out your tongue. Reached your noggin inside the smoker and licked from the very bottom to the top. The unscrew a cap of Kitchen Bouquet liquid browning agent and drank it down. Smack your lips and this is what you get when you uncap a bottle of Palo Santo Marron. Woody, smokey, dark brown, opaque, thick. It does have something bright in the flavor profile, just a tinge. Not a terrible beer....I'm undecided. Hard to rate it right now. It's something......not sure what...but something I haven't quite tasted before.
From the brewer:
Dogfish Head - India Brown Ale
India Brown AleThick, foamy, rich, dark brown goodness. Reminds me of demiglace. Almost too rich and flavorful to drink by itself. Makes me want to fix some meatloaf and smashed right now. No, better yet, kill something, grind it up and fix meatloaf. It's a manly brew, tasty.
From the brewer:
Indian Brown Ale A cross between a Scotch Ale, an I.P.A, and an American Pale, this beer is well hopped and malty at the same time. It is brewed with Aromatic Barley and caramelized brown sugar. - 50 IBU available year round, bottles & draft - Descriptors: Notes of molasses, coffee, ginger, raisinettes, chocolate
Southern Tier Brewery - Raspberry Wheat
Wow....raspberries! That's what hit me as I poured the beer. Lots of foamy head in the pint class. Crisp flavor, not much fruit in the mouth. Good summer beer for something different. A bit too sweet to drink a bunch of for me.
From the brewer:
A golden wheat beer brewed with the finest North American malted barley and wheat. It’s then lightly hopped with the choicest European varieties. This smooth, crisp golden wheat beer is then finished with a hint of raspberry. Enjoy this beer any time of year.
Southern Tier Brewery - Raspberry Porter
Good tasting beer. Little to no head. Reminded me of rootbeer a little. The wife didn't like it. A bit too heavy on the tongue for her. Dark in color. I would drink it again.
From the brewer:
“chocolatey porter brewed with raspberries” An ale brewed with the finest North American barley. Raspberry Porter is lightly Hopped with the choicest Pacific Northwest grown hops. Pleasant roast and chocolate-like notes give this beer a sweet and subtle body while its rich creamy head compliments its character. This delicate and smooth beer is finished with a hint of raspberries and is certain to become your holiday favorite!
Stone Ruination IPA
Stone - Ruination IPABitter to beat the band.....beating them with a small wooden stick that doesn't break, it just snaps and cracks and makes you want to whimper. This beer is bitter....cruel....almost snide. Not sure if I could drink enough to appreciate them though. Kinda harsh. Not easy on my palate.
From the brewer:
So called because of the immediate ruinous effect on your palate. 100+ IBUs. Bracingly bitter. Thick, pungent hop aroma. We would say that no hops were injured in the brewing of this beer, but that would be a massive lie.
Great Divide Hoss Rye Lager
Very good taste and would go great with a sweet KC style barbecue. Can’t wait to try the other Great Divide beers.
From the brewer:
Hoss is based on the Marzen lagers of Germany. Rich, layered malt notes, with hints of cherry and dark fruits, dominate, while the unique addition of rye imparts a slightly earthy, spicy character. Hoss finishes crisp crisp and dry, and its brilliant red-orange color is a toast to the sunsets that make the perfect backdrop for this beer.
