New Charges In BBQ Cremation of North State Grandmother
The Tehama County mother and son accused of cremating the family grandmother in a barbecue pit face a new set of grand theft charges. Kathleen Allmond and her son Tony Ray originally pleaded not guilty to elder abuse and theft.
Wednesday in court, those original counts were dismissed and replaced with three counts of grand theft. They also face a misdemeanor charge of unlawfully disposing of human remains. Authorities say the two took $25,000 of Allmond's mother's retirement and social security checks. Mother and son both pleaded not guilty and are scheduled for a preliminary hearing November 25th.
