2007 BBQ Contest Photos

• Ohio Smoked Meat Festival - Nelsonville, OH

  17 teams were scrounged togethor to save what some called a "dying contest". The weather was near perfect for this late in the season. The grounds were nice and dry, which meant pulling the camper in was easy peasy.

• Oinktoberfest - Clarence, NY

  We had a pretty good time this weekend in Western NY. 50 teams from all over came to compete in the NY State BBQ Championship. Space was limited and the power supply was barely adequate. Charlie Daniels Band played friday night and there were tons of activities for the kids, including a corn maze, haunted house, fair rides and games and a cool pumpkin cannon that shot softball sized pumpkins about a 1/2 mile.

• Jim Dandy BBQ Cookoff - Sharonville, Ohio

  This was a nice little contest. It was held in the parking lot of the Jim Dandy Family BBQ Restaurant in Sharonville, a suburb of Cincinnati. The contest reps were really nice people and the host, Jim Dandy was more than accomodating.

  Space was tight, and the contest was capped at 17 teams. I don't think very many more could have fit. I'm told the location will be moved to the Hamilton County Fairgrounds next year. If it is run in a similar manner as this one, I'll compete in it for sure.

  This was my first contest as a judge and it was an interesting experience. More on that later.
