Cooks and Judges,

Be sure to mark your calendars for the 2nd Annual Ohio Veteran Barbecue Cook-Off. The event will be held July 18 & 19 on the grounds of the Kettering American Legion Post 598 in Kettering, Ohio. This year promises to be bigger and better than last year so if you didn't make it last year, be sure you get your entry in for this year.

Here are the answers to a few questions we have been fielding from some of the teams. Hopefully any questions you might have will be answered here but if not, check out the website or contact us.

  • This is a KCBS sanctioned competition and the Reps are Kathy and Phillip Brazier
  • This is a State Championship
  • It is probable that we will limit the field to 36 teams in order to accomodate everyone
  • Water will be provided but it will not be pressurized so you must bring a container to carry it back to your site
  • Electricity will be provided but it will be limited to a maximum 110v 20a per team. If you have a generator, you are encouraged to bring it with you.
  • Please let us know asap if you require more than a 20' x 20' space for set-up
  • With exception to some of the bigger rigs, the sites will be level grass in the shade
  • Teams are welcome to arrive and set-up on Thursday

Update on Ohio Veteran's BBQ Cookoff

I received this in my email this morning.
    -----------------------------------------
    Greetings All!

Hopefully the competiton season has been a good one for you so far.

We are working hard in Kettering to put together a first rate KCBS event for you and here are a couple of things that have been added to the line-up in case you haven't checked the website lately.

June 15 - Mike & Theresa Lake will be coming in from Shannon, IL to hold a KCBS Certified Barbeque Judge class. This class is not only for those that are full time judges but it can also be of great benefit to competitiors as well in the sense that it gives you an idea of the criteria being used to score the entries. A lot of cooking teams have taken this class to improve their scores. The class is limited and the entry form can be found by clicking the CBJ Class link on the website.

July 19 - Phillip Brazier will be conducting a KCBS Table Captain class beginning at 8:30 AM. This class is for CBJ's in good standing who have judged at least 10 sanctioned competitions. The class only takes a couple of hours and more information can be found by clicking the Table Captain Class link on the website.

As for the competition, we currently have 12 teams signed up and it looks like the field is going to fill-up fast. This is one of only two State Qualifiers for the 2008 Jack Daniels draw.

We are expecting to have 100% Certified Judges for the contest.

The committee is working diligently make this the most enjoyable event you will attend this year and we are looking forward to seeing everyone. As always, if you have any questions that can't be answered by visiting the website, then please contact us.

    Thanks to Rolling Smoke!

Thanks Jim for the update on this contest. It sure does sound like a great one. Unfortunately, we're not going to be able to compete this year as we have a prior committment with lots of beer and country music at Jamboree In The Hills!
